2020 has been an extraordinary year and as a result we have a massive mountain to climb to continue providing essential services to those who need us more than ever.

Introducing Our Everest

Jemma, walking with her dog, in memory of her sister

In January 2021 we're challenging our supporters to recreate the iconic Everest Base Camp Trek by walking 130km in just one month. Participants can choose where and how they reach their distance, and they'll be joined by hundreds of virtual teammates from all across the country who have signed up already.

We're proud to be joining forces with our sister charity, the British Lung Foundation for this exciting virtual challenge. Together, we're working to change the lives of everyone affected by a lung condition and put up a fight for the 1 in 5 people with lung disease in the UK.

I recently caught up with one of our recent ‘recruits’ for the Our Everest Challenge, Jemma and asked why participating in this event is so important to her.

Jemma’s story

“I am doing this in memory of my sister, Lisa. She passed away in July 2019, 2 weeks after her 31st birthday. It still feels very surreal me writing that. She had familial interstitial pneumonitis, a form of lung disease and in May 2019 she contracted viral pneumonia. She spent 54 days on ECMO a form of life support in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, but unfortunately, they couldn’t save her. Her daughter was 3 years old at the time. As a family it has devastated us, but I want to do everything I can to help support the charity in their efforts to help others and hopefully save someone else the pain we go through”

Imagine a world with no asthma helpline, no research and where asthma has no voice.

As a charity, Asthma UK provides free health advice to millions, we fight for the rights of people with asthma in the corridors of power and we fund ground-breaking research.

COVID-19 has devastated our ability to raise vital funds, so if you've benefited from our free health advice, think asthma needs a voice or believe in asthma research, we need your support now more than ever.

To show how much you care about people with asthma, if you can please make a small donation today. Your support now will be an investment for improving the future for everyone with asthma in the UK.
