Keeping Amy’s memory alive
Rachael’s beloved daughter Amy passed away in 2017 following an asthma attack. She shares her story of keeping Amy’s memory alive.
My daughter Amy was born on 2nd August 2003. She was loud, full of life, cheeky and funny. She was a beautiful person inside and out with many friends.
Amy suffered from asthma all her life and sadly passed away suddenly from an asthma attack aged just 14. She was a much-loved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, goddaughter and friend and we all miss her terribly.
Setting up a tribute page
We started the https://amy-thomas.muchloved.com/ page as a tribute to Amy for family and friends to leave messages, memories and pictures. Following on from that we used the page as a way people could donate to Asthma UK from things like quizzes to charity drives, sunflower growing to Amy’s Dad Martin’s epic walk to Glasgow.
Fundraising in Amy’s memory
In March 2020, Martin began a charity walk from Glastonbury to Glasgow in Amy’s memory. In just eight days he walked an incredible 160 miles to Tarporley in Cheshire. Though, with the rapid emergence of COVID-19 in the UK he had to take a break and returned home to be with us, his family.
But once lockdown restrictions eased again in July, Martin restarted his walk from Tarporley, and over the next 10 days – in a mixture of weather conditions – completed a phenomenal 230 miles to reach Finnieston Crane in Glasgow.
Martin was able to raise over a whopping £10,000 for Asthma UK and we are all very proud of him– it’s an amazing achievement and a great tribute to Amy’s memory.
Keeping Amy’s memory alive
We continue to be overwhelmed with the support we receive from family and friends and want to thank everyone for their love, support, and donations. We’re not sure what the next charity event will be but watch this space!
Over the past few years, we have raised in total over £38,000 doing various charity events for Asthma UK.
We still miss Amy so much, not a day goes by without her in our thoughts and we think this is an amazing way to keep her memory alive.
