Fighting for you: A+LUK moments from April

We want to share with you some of our April highlights. From a fantastic day cheering at London Landmarks Half Marathon, to incredible clean air campaigning, read this blog to find out some of our spotlight moments from this month.

Raising awareness of the link between hormones and asthma

This month, we spoke to Poppy. Poppy didn’t know that hormonal changes could cause changes in asthma symptoms. Even now her asthma is under control, every month she finds her asthma is exacerbated just before her period. You can listen and watch Poppy share her story with us.

Getting our cheer on at London Landmarks!

At the beginning of April, our cheer squad headed down to support Team Breathe at the London Landmarks Half Marathon. This was Team Breathe’s first time running with our personalised A+LUK vests. Our runners did us proud!

Looking for a running challenge? Why not take a look at getting involved with one of our next running events, the Royal Parks Half Marathon!

Progress towards new mesothelioma treatments

Asthma + Lung UK has funded research by Professor Dean Fennell, who is working on new treatments for mesothelioma. In this blog he explains what mesothelioma is and the hope his research could bring to more than a thousand people diagnosed with the condition each year.

Our first Parent Carer Support Network of Children with Asthma event

This month we hosted a live Q&A with medical experts covering ways parents can support their child’s asthma at home. This session was aimed at parents and carers of children with asthma. Join us over Zoom on Tuesday 31st May at 7pm for our next event. We’ll speak with Darush Attar-Zadeh, a leading UK pharmacist and member of the Taskforce for Lung Health in Barnet. Darush will be answering your questions about the impact of long term medications on your child's life and wellbeing, and giving you some useful tips about managing them.

Our new clean air consultation tool

Everyone has the right to breathe clean air, but in almost every area of the UK people are exposed to toxic levels of air pollution. At A+LUK, we are fighting for cleaner air. This is why we’ve created a clean air consultation tool. By filling the tool in and sharing your air pollution story, we can work together to tell the government we need clean air now.

A thank you to Chesthelp Bournemouth!

A huge thank you to Chesthelp Bournemouth and Mayor of Bournemouth Councillor David Kelsey for their incredibly generous donation of £10,000 – your gift will make a huge difference, together we’re transforming lung health.

At Asthma + Lung UK, we want no one left fighting for breath without knowing what’s happening to them. Read our report to find out what we’re fighting for.

Every five minutes someone dies from a lung condition.

Yet only 2% of public funding for medical research goes to lung health. How can something so vital be so underfunded?

Together we can change this.
