Working together for healthy lungs: this month's successes and shout outs

It’s been almost a month since we launched as A+LUK, and we want to share with you some of the highlights! From great feedback about our support groups giving you the help you need, to another clean air campaigning win, read more about the great news from the past month.

Launching with a bang!

On the 28th of February, our new brand Asthma and Lung UK launched! It was great to see you loving our new name and look. We received some brilliant support, including from celebrities such as Toby Anstis, Priya Gopaldas, Stephen Fry, Rosemary Conley CBE, Helen Lederer, and Austin Healey.

You can find out more about A+LUK in our blog here.

Campaigning with you at Westminster

At our launch events, we brought together politicians and other government officials, as well as many campaigners and people with lung conditions, to highlight our vision of a world where everyone has healthy lungs.

Lung health is everybody’s problem, yet millions of people with lung conditions still aren’t getting the help they need or deserve. We’re fighting to change this!

You can read more about it in our blog here.

Another clean air win!

We’re celebrated a huge win in the fight for healthier lungs! Plans have been discussed for the whole of London to be covered by a clean air zone in 2023 - the first UK city to be entirely covered by such a scheme.

We’ve been calling for this for some time as it will protect hundreds of thousands of people with lung conditions like COPD and asthma who are at risk of a life-threatening flare up or asthma attack because of air pollution.

World Poetry Day

This World Poetry Day, we asked our supporters what breath means to them. We had some really thoughtful and moving responses including:

‘Breath is life’
‘A breath is hope’
’Breath to me is my life line’

You can read one of the incredibly touching poems that we received here.

The helpline celebrates 17 years!

Can you believe that we are celebrating 17 years since our helpline began on the British Lung Foundation this month? Since the opening in 2005, the helpline has helped to support people with lung conditions with advice, information and a listening ear.

Carol, who has been with the helpline since the very beginning, talks about her experiences of the last 17 years. Read about here experiences here.

Support groups helping you gain control

Over 90% of attendees at our last online support group said they felt more in control of their lung health, as a result of our sessions. What a great success!

Registration is now open for our April online support group. The online support group is made up of four sessions that include pulmonary rehab, helpline Q&As, and a coffee morning run by our volunteers. Register your place here!

More research investment is coming!

Respiratory outcomes in the UK have continued to decline over the last 15 years, and it remains the third leading cause of death, affecting 1 in 5 people and costing the UK £11 billion each year.

As part of our new strategy, we are committed to driving an increased investment in respiratory research and innovation to transform respiratory health outcomes and make the UK the best place in the world to do respiratory science. You can read our blog for more details here.

At Asthma + Lung UK, we want no one left fighting for breath without knowing what’s happening to them. Read our report to find out what we’re fighting for.

We empower people with lung conditions to make changes that can be transformative.

Please donate now to help make sure people with lung conditions can live well this year.
